Worm Castings are an excellent soil amendment that is produced in nature by worms. Worm castings provide a sustained release plant food. We use worm casting all over our farm and have never had any type of plant burn with the use of worm casting.

Having soil that has been replenished with worm castings will provide you with the best tasting, most nutritious fruits and vegetables you have ever tasted.

Our worms are fed a variety of feedstock consisting of household waste such as vegetable and fruit scraps, coffee grounds, shredded paper, pretty much anything organic. We also feed them compost made of livestock manure, barn bedding, lawn clippings, leaves from our outside compost pile which provides them a wide variety of minerals and trace elements. As the red worms digest this food it is beneficially altered both chemically and physically. The final product is an extremely fertile soil amendment that is already conditioned for best root growth. Providing plants with a rich fertilizer in a water soluble form for optimum plant nutrition for weeks or months at a time.

Worm castings are environmentally friendly, safe for plants, animals and people. Can be used directly on indoor or outdoor plants. Usually requires less watering because of the absorbent organic matter contained in the castings moisture is provided to the roots while excess water drains away while allowing oxygen to reach the roots where it can be used.

We use the worm castings at a rate of about 25-50% worm castings mixed with soil for potted plants or right out of the bins as a topdressing in the vegetable garden, flower beds and lawn at about 20 lbs per 100 square feet. You can also make a compost tea by soaking the casting in water, preferably mixing with air for a day or two, filter through a cloth to remove what has not dissolved then use with a sprayer. Spraying your plants in many cases can help make them more disease and pest resistent. We only use this method on the vegetable garden as it is less time consuming for us to topdress the larger areas of the farm.

Harvesting the castings is done by running the material from the worm bins through a screen. When purchasing our worm castings they may contain small particles of compost which is also very beneficial.

Comes with information on how we use the castings around the farm. These are only our recommendations and you can alter the usage to meet your needs.
